I am not sure if it is allowed to create this kind of thread in this directory,
however, you are already on the right track.

Check the most upper section of the Important Threads and see the "Read this first!" thread there.
Click it and scroll down until you find the reply post by someone that goes with the name [SiK]SuperNova,
the guy there attached a very good video about making maps for beginners.
