How do i make a map?

I remember seeing a very good detailed mapping tutorial post made by user named Ice somewhere, could be on this thread. It's not accessible anymore somehow.

Anyway, you can start with what bamers already said. As for the track idea, it's your task truly. Don't worry about your map going to be awfully mapped or something, there will be always a productive criticsm on the map showroom.
